Invisalign FAQs

Invisalign is, using clear aligners, the invisible way to straighten your teeth and achieve the smile you've always dreamed of. Using advanced 3D computer imaging technology, it is possible to predict the complete treatment plan based on the orthodontist's prescription, from the initial position of the teeth to the final desired position.

Subsequently, a series of clear aligners are made to measure for each patient, and according to their teeth, to move them gradually. Each aligner is worn about two weeks before being replaced with the next aligner, gradually moving towards the final projected position.

The duration of Invisalign treatment is determined by the Invisalign Provider orthodontist, based on the specific needs of each patient.

Invisalign aligners are virtually invisible, making it almost imperceptible that you are wearing them., making Invisalign a perfect ally with any lifestyle and day-to-day interactions with others.

The aligners are removable, giving you the flexibility to eat and drink whatever you want during treatment, just needing to remove them. This is also an added value, making daily oral hygiene easier, as you just need to remove the aligners to comfortably carry out your usual routine.

Unlike traditional braces, there are no metal brackets or wires. This means that, in most cases, fewer visits are needed and consultations are also shorter to monitor treatment.

To conclude, it is important to add that Invisalign also allows you to virtually visualize the treatment plan and the results before you even start your treatment so you can have a perception of how your teeth should look when the treatment is complete.

Removable appliances had already been tested by orthodontists and the results were a success. Today, With the application of Invisalign's 3D computer technology, the Invisalign system can be used to treat the vast majority of patients who want straighter, more aligned teeth. Exclusive ClinCheck® software allows patients to see the treatment plan from start to finish, even before it starts.

More than 10 million patients worldwide have turned to Invisalign treatment. The number of Invisalign smiles grows daily. Actress Katherine Heigl and supermodel Gisele Bundchen, are two well-known and famous names, are examples of the result and effectiveness of this type of treatment.

The cost of Invisalign treatment, at the Colombo & Silva dental clinic, can cost from €2000. Treatment plans are presented with various forms of payment, which include interest-free installment payments.  However, we always suggest that you schedule an evaluation consultation and obtain, at no cost, a quote with an indication of all costs and existing payment methods, in your case.

Invisalign aligners move teeth with proper placement of controlled movement on the teeth. Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign not only controls the amount of movement per aligner, but also the timing of the movement. Therefore, at each stage, only a few teeth can move, according to the Invisalign treatment plan for that specific stage. This results in an efficient force delivery system that moves the teeth to the desired prescribed position..

They are very discreet. While Invisalign aligners are not completely invisible, they are very discreet. In most cases, you will be able to talk to family and friends without them realizing that you are wearing aligners.

Invisalign aligners were created to ensure the greatest comfort in your day-to-day, using 'transparent polycrystalline alumina' which is a transparent and soft material, adapted to your dentition. Invisalign also has the advantage of not having metal wires or braces, which can sometimes cause discomfort at the start of treatment.

Some people may experience minor discomfort on the first and second days, at the beginning of each new treatment step, when inserting a new aligner. This is normal and is often described as a feeling of pressure. It's a sign that the aligners are working – moving your teeth gradually, and helping to achieve the final results. This discomfort usually disappears within the first few days.

The frequency will be defined by the orthodontist in the treatment/study plan initially made. It may vary between 8 and 10 days of use between each aligner.

Consultation intervals are generally the same as for traditional devices, but can be much faster with less time spent in the chair during consultations as no adjustments are required.

Patients typically visit us every 4 to 6 weeks to ensure treatment is progressing as planned and to receive their next Invisalign aligners. With Invisalign it is possible to adjust appointments according to the patient's availability, this is one of the great advantages of this treatment.

If you would like more information about Invisalign, or any of our orthodontic treatments, we will be delighted to welcome you for a no-cost, no-obligation evaluation consultation. we will reply to all your questions and together we will design a treatment plan suited to your needs. PWe can explore other options so you have all the information you need to make an informed decision.

No type of treatment is suitable for all cases. That's why we always make an evaluation consultation, where you will know which treatment is most appropriate for your case. However, Invisalign is a treatment that allows you to straighten almost all types of cases. Book your evaluation appointment and learn about this solution.

Several Invisalign patients have had prior treatment involving braces at some point in the past, usually during their youth. Invisalign can correct the dislocation that occurs after braces are used, commonly known as relapse.

Yup. O Invisalign is usually very effective at closing spaces.

Yup. Invisalign can treat overbites in the vast majority of adults and teens.

A significant number of our patients have switched from conventional braces to Invisalign. And they are very satisfied, the advantages are numerous.

Invisalign is used in children over 7 years of age. Typically, what is needed is for most of the permanent teeth to be in place. Our smallest patients are treated with Invisalign First, adapted for treatments from 7 to 10 years old. Pmay be the right treatment option for your child. Book an evaluation, free of charge.

Not. Unlike traditional braces, you can eat whatever you want during treatment because you have to remove the aligners to eat and drink. So, there is no need to restrict your consumption of any of your favorite foods and snacks. In addition, it is important that you brush and floss your teeth after each meal and before reinserting the aligners to maintain proper hygiene.

It is not advisable to chew lozenge while wearing the aligners as it can cling to the aligners. It is recommended that aligners be removed for all meals and snacks.

Smoking is not recommended when using the aligners because they can become smudged.

Because bridges are used to firmly join two or more teeth, they offer significant resistance to tooth movement. However, we can usually bypass bridges depending on their position. Book an evaluation and find out what can be done in your case.

Crowns are usually not a factor in Invisalign treatment. However, sometimes small tooth-colored composites called “attachments” are used, which are glued to the teeth to help with certain movements and are more difficult to glue to crowns than teeth. In these cases, the location of the crowns must be carefully evaluated. However, we can usually get around this and reposition the accessories on other teeth, unlike traditional braces, where we can't avoid placing a bracket on the crown.

TMJ refers to the temporomandibular joint (jaw). People with a TMJ condition can have a number of problems with the jaw joint, some of which can be made worse with braces and treatments, others that can improve or remain unchanged or even cause the condition to deteriorate. To find out if your TMJ problem will have an adverse impact on treatment, schedule your assessment with our specialist.

The best way to clean your aligners is to brush and rinse them in warm water. PYou may choose to use special tablets, under medical advice. However, aligners are changed every 8 to 10 days. It is important that you brush your teeth after each meal and before reinserting the aligners to maintain proper hygiene.

If you lose one of your aligners, you should contact us as soon as possible. During this time, you can use your anterior aligner to prevent your teeth from moving. In some cases, we may suggest going straight to the next aligner, and in rare cases, we can manufacture the aligner within a few days.

The use of retainers after any orthodontic treatment is an important step as it keeps the teeth stable in their new positions. If you want the your teeth remain in the ideal position, it is best to use a retainer as directed by our dentists. In many cases, the last aligner will be the temporary retainer until your retainer option is determined. It may be recommended to use of long-term retention.

Most people prefer Invisalign aligners over traditional metal braces because clear aligners are less noticeable and less comfortable. In many cases, using Invisalign takes less time than traditional braces. Another advantage is the fact that it does not have sharp metal components that hurt the inside of the mouth and for that reason there will be fewer emergency visits with incidents.

Although the length of time varies from person to person and depending on the complexity of the case, most people end up using Invisalign between 6 months for a very simple case and 12 to 18 months for a moderate to complex case.

Depending on the amount of movement that can happen with each aligner, there may be some discomfort that usually lasts about 24 to 48 hours. Taking acetaminophen (on recommendation) may help alleviate some of this discomfort.

Yes, you can do it without any problem. You must make an appointment to evaluate your case and then request the transfer of your file to our clinic. We will help you through this whole process.
